Does the institution have strategies in place to safely dispose of all hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste and seek to minimize the presence of these materials on campus?:
Yes

A brief description of steps taken to reduce hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:

Environmental Health and Safety receives certificates from the vendors receiving the waste verifying that materials have been disposed of responsibly and safely.

A brief description of how the institution safely disposes of hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:

Cost for disposal of hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste is incurred by the Environmental Safety Department (EHS) so that departments are willing to dispose of unneeded material and rarely stockpile waste. Hazardous waste and e waste manifest are maintained in the EHS office. It is up to the individuals at Rice to contact the EHS department for disposal needs however during lab inspections and remodeling activities the EHS department will make necessary arrangements for disposal if non compliance issues are identified. EHS periodically conducts targeted building cleanouts, where a full building sweep and inspection is completed for each building. This ensures that electronics, recyclables, and hazardous materials are always appropriately disposed of.
