Environmental Health and Safety receives certificates from the vendors recycling the waste verifying that materials have been recycled or disposed of responsibly and safely.

A brief description of the electronic waste recycling program for institution-generated materials:

Cost for disposal of e-waste is incurred by the Environmental Safety Department (EHS) so that departments are willing to dispose of unneeded material and rarely stockpile waste. E-waste is disposed at a recycler and all waste is shredded and recycled when possible. Hazardous waste and e waste manifest are maintained in the EHS office. It is up to the individuals at Rice to contact the EHS department for disposal needs however during lab inspections and remodeling activities the EHS department will make necessary arrangements for disposal if non compliance issues are identified. EHS periodically conducts targeted building cleanouts, where a full building sweep and inspection is completed for each building. This ensures that electronics, recyclables, and hazardous materials are always appropriately disposed of. Rice also hosts several events throughout the year to facilitate collection and recycling of E-waste.

A brief description of the electronic waste recycling program for student-generated materials :

Rice hosts several events during the year to facilitate collection and recycling of E-waste. Collection bins are available at all times in each of the residential colleges.
