A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:
Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) is dedicated exclusively to graduate level research and training. Since its creation in 1969, the institute has built its success on interdisciplinarity, innovation, and excellence.
INRS is made up of four thematic and interdisciplinary research and training centres in Quebec City, Montreal, Laval, and Varennes: Eau Terre Environnement, Urbanisation Culture Société, Armand-Frappier Santé Biotechnologie and Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications.
All INRS campuses and sites are included within the institutional boundary used to delimit the scope of this report : two sites owned in Quebec City, one site owned in Varenne, two sites in Montreal (one leased, one owned) and one campus in Laval (owned), except from some operational data about the leased Montreal site, because we do not have an operational control over there.

Which of the following features are present on campus and which are included within the institutional boundary?:
Present? | Included? | |
Agricultural school | No | --- |
Medical school | No | --- |
Other professional school with labs or clinics (e.g. dental, nursing, pharmacy, public health, veterinary) | No | --- |
Museum | No | --- |
Satellite campus | No | --- |
Farm larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres | No | --- |
Agricultural experiment station larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres | No | --- |
Hospital | No | --- |
The rationale for excluding any features that are present from the institutional boundary:
INRS also leases (emphyteutic lease) a remote site in Sacré-Cœur-sur-le-fjord and runs a research station there 6 months a year to monitor Atlantic salmon. This research station is not included because of its particularity. It's a site made up of a few trailers and is not accessible year-round, and we are not the owner.
Furthermore, INRS has put in place 5 "UMR (unité mixte de recherche)" or Mixed Research Units in the last two years. Those are composed, each, of 3 INRS professors and 3 professors from other universities from the "Université du Québec" network, which host the UMRs. Being based in the hosting university campus, so outside of INRS and on a campus which does not give INRS operational control over, which is why they are excluded from the operations credits.
