A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction and engagement:

Humber’s Employee Engagement Survey is a Year 2 Strategic Plan measure related to our Foundations for Success, the first goal of which is to invest in accomplished and engaged employees who are supported in delivering an exceptional student experience.

The results of the survey have assisted us in understanding our progress in meeting the needs of our employees, our strengths as an employer, and the areas in which we could improve to make our organization an even greater place to work and study. The survey responses have provided the basis for data analysis of the results and action planning recommendations which are being used as part of continuous improvement efforts.

The survey consisted of a series of statements that addressed various aspects of working at the College, including: Humber’s Strategic Direction, Overall Humber Environment, Communications, Work Environment, Work Resources, Professional Growth and Development, Performance Management, Recognition and Rewards, My Job, an Open Ended Question: Enhancing the Work Environment at Humber, and Demographic Information. Employees were asked to indicate their level of agreement or disagreement with each statement, and had the opportunity to include their own thoughts and comments in an open-ended format at the end of each section.

An external survey research firm (CCI Research Inc.) conducted the survey on behalf of Humber. CCI Research was chosen to administer the survey on the basis of a competitive procurement process. CCI Research designed the survey instrument and fully administered the online survey and tabulated all survey results which will be provided back to the college in the form of summary reports.

An Employee Engagement Survey Committee worked with CCI to facilitate the planning and administration of the survey process and the reporting of survey results. The committee included representation from faculty, support, and administrative staff.

The Employee Engagement Survey was last conducted in 2014.

A brief description of the mechanism(s) by which the institution addresses issues raised by the evaluation (including examples from the previous three years):

Survey results were provided to each division/department with the intention that each people manager would develop and execute an engagement action plan. At the corporate level an Employee Engagement Committee was developed to look at three specific areas: Communications, Change Management and Recognition. Recommendations were presented to the Executive team and are currently in the process of being implemented.
