Humber has standard language in all of Humber College's RFPs that involve chemically intensive products and services which includes:
- Detail the company's building-specific Green Plan, green product line and other green initiatives undertaken
- Green Cleaning: Certification under Green Seal's Environmental standard for commercial cleaning services or other; consistent with LEED requirements for 'Green Cleaning Policy'; must use certified green cleaning products; all employees shall receive training annually which reinforces the Green Cleaning Plan

Humber has standard language in all of Humber College's RFPs that involve construction and renovations which includes:
- All contractors expected to minimize waste they produce and recycle as much as possible including (but not limited to): carpet, other flooring materials, metal, drywall, furniture, etc.
- Humber works with a third party that assists the college and it's General Contractors to re-use and recycle as much material as possible during renovations during demolition and throughout the project. Items that are re-purposed within the community include: door frames, fixtures, furniture, etc.
- General site practices required: conserve energy and water, design and integrate sustainability into buildings and renovations,

Humber purchases much of their IT technology through a collaborative purchasing process with the Ontario Education sector (institutions may choose to go together to put out an RFP for products and services).

The current OECM contract for Desktops, Laptops and Related products and services states:
- "Technical Mandatory Requirements: The Products provided through the Term of the Agreement(s) must: Be new Products publicly available in Canada Provide Standard Warranty coverage Meet or exceed minimum Product specifications contained in this RFP Be licensed with Microsoft Windows operating system Be built, tested and free from viruses prior to delivery to Clients Have appropriate electrical approval for use in Canada Have EPEAT rating of silver or above."
- "Environmental Program: The Proponent should describe the following with respect to its environmental program: Its environmental program including for instance, recycling of packing materials. Its environmentally friendly (e.g. energy conservation features) Products. How it complies with EPEAT standard, and how that standard will be maintained for the Term of the Agreement.

The current OECM contract for Multi functional Devices states:
- "Provide reporting on overall cost, energy, greenhouse gas and solid waste reductions; and,
- Review and provide sustainability benefits (e.g. financial, environmental impact, energy consumption, social).
- Meet or exceed Energy Star Certification Standards, where applicable, with automatic power down and sleep settings;
- Energy Conservations Registration All Office MFDs proposed in response to this RFP, and for the Term of the Agreement, shall have an energy conservation rating.
- Environmental/Sustainability Requirements OECM and its Clients strive to source, promote, and support products and services that are environmentally sound. The proposed Office MFDs should: • Possess EPEAT designation, where available; Possess Blue Angel designation, where available; • Meet or exceed Energy Star Certification Standards, where applicable, with automatic power down and sleep settings; • Possess Ecologo designation; • Be from an OEM that have a registered environmental management system; • Be manufactured in an environment that observes fair labour practices as observed in the country of origin; • Contain recycled content when manufactured; • Allow Clients to return packaging materials used in shipping or used during the delivery of service at no charge to Clients; and • Meet health and safety standards, as set in the province of Ontario and the government of Canada.
- Supply and Consumables Recycling Program The Supplier will provide either a Supplier self-managed or third party recycling program for all used/empty and or end-of-life supplies (including packaging) from the Client’s locations. The recycling program will be a no-charge service provided to Clients and will include but not be limited to: • A timely and reliable service including: o A pick up of recyclable supplies from the Clients within two (2) Business Days of a request o The pickup will be done by the Supplier or its third-party carrier o Pickup at the time of delivery of new supplies is acceptable • There are no minimum quantities or volumes requirements to schedule a pick up; • Ease of use for Clients; • Assurances of capacity to accept and manage recycling from large Clients; • A commitment to environmental sustainability; and, • Assurances end-of-life supplies are disposed of in a socially responsible manner
-Support the Client’s environmental and sustainability requirements;"

The current OECM contract for Toner- Printers Plus states:
- "1 Product Recycling Program The Supplier shall have a robust recycling program available to Clients. The recycling program can be provided by either a Supplier or third-party Product recycling program for all used, empty, and/or end-of-life Products from Clients’ locations. The Product recycling program will be at no-charge to Clients and shall include but not be limited to: • A timely and reliable Service; • Ease of use for Clients; • Sufficient capacity to accept and manage used Products for recycling from large accounts; • A commitment to environmental sustainability; and • Assurances on end-of-life Product is disposed of in a socially responsible manner
- 2 Provide an excellent recycling program to Clients;
- 3 The Client and Supplier may agree to other delivery terms (e.g. in order for the Supplier to reduce its environmental footprint, or to satisfy the Clients schedule) which are mutually beneficial to each party"

Humber has included a lot of criteria for our food service provider in recent RFP including:
- We seek a proven, high-performing vendor with management and technical staff and significant corporate commitment to achieve the sustainability goals & objectives detailed in this RFP. The successful vendor’s submission will be expected to demonstrate how they have or will address sustainability issues in Food Management Services as these will become future key performance metrics
- Provide a complete outline of your sustainability, composting and recycling initiatives and procedures you intend and commit to implement under this contract such as: waste reduction and diversion, energy reduction, Fairtrade programs, etc.
-Explain where you purchase your food products from for all food/product types. Define what must be purchased from head office verses directly from the supplier. Do you purchase local, organic, community based and/or third party verified food whenever possible? Please provide examples and statistics. Prorponents are asked to fill in a form outlining all food types and where they are procured from and which are certified/local/sustainable.
- Explain your company’s educational initiatives around healthy eating, cooking, local food issues, fitness, collaboration with academic programs related to sustainable agriculture and food systems, working with Meal Exchange student group, and joint initiatives with related organizations
- Describe how your company will maintain minimum annual levels of local foods procurement as agreed upon between the successful vendor and Humber
- A minimum of 30% of estimated annual food purchases (food cost) must be sourced from local and sustainable growers and vendors and the annual minimum amount to increase annual food purchases sourced from local and sustainable growers and vendors is 2% per year.
- Vendor is required to track food purchases annually using provided tracking form.

In Humber's RFP's related to wood and paper, vendors are asked the following:
- Vendors are to recommend specific paper as per the stock specifications provided for each item. The paper must be FSC approved, and have a minimum of 50% PCW.
- Please provide a quote for a paper option of 50% PCW & FSC as well at 100% PCW & FSC. Please proved a sample of the type of paper and weights you are quoting.

Within a recent RFP for recruitment postcards and posters the requirement was:

As other commodities are required, Humber integrates sustainability requirements into RFP's as necessary. For example, a recent RFP for laudry equipement for our residence included the following requirements:
- Please describe in detail any unique energy and water saving features of the proposed units and how they may differ from typical units used by competitors. For each proposed unit, provide documentation demonstrating ENERGY STAR certification and key specifications such as Combined Energy Factor (CEF), Modified Energy Factor (MEF), Water Factor (WF), Estimated Annual Energy Use (kWh/yr) and Annual Water Use (gallons/yr).
