A brief description of the institution’s third party certified land holdings:
FGCU was certified as an official Tree Campus USA university on January 9, 2010, and has met annual re-certification standards since that time.
Tree Campus USA is a program sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, which recognizes college and university campuses across the nation that manage their campus trees effectively, develop connectivity with the community beyond campus borders to foster healthy, urban forests, and utilize service learning opportunities centered on campus, and community, forestry efforts.
A committee was formed consisting of students, faculty, staff, and members of the surrounding community to develop the Tree Campus Plan and complete the application for entrance into the program.
Also, National Arbor Day Award
FGCU was the first University in the country to receive the National Arbor Day Award for the best Arbor Day Celebration on February 9, 2012, due to the efforts set forth by the Tree Care Advisory Committee and FGCU’s commitment to urban forestry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuCtlb5zH08
