Does the institution make training and professional development opportunities available to all staff?:
Yes

A brief description of the sustainability trainings and professional development opportunities available to staff :

Although the college does not have a performance review process or formal training programs, employees are encouraged to review options to sustain their knowledge of their positions. This can be achieved by employees researching local adult education or technical training opportunities. These approvals are driven by department managers based on the need of the program and the availability of funds within their own budget lines.

Employees, who also seek out opportunities for improvement, i.e. computer based skills, are encouraged to seek outside educational opportunities to support the job growth on the campus. This too is driven by the business need and financial need of the college.

Many positions on the campus, i.e. electricians, horticulture, security, etc., are required to maintain appropriate levels of certified training to continue in their position of the campus. The college fully supports any certified training programs needs.

Bard College also offers employees the opportunity to take classes at undergraduate level for little to no cost. Department managers are encouraged to allow for flexibility in daily schedules to allow for such requests.

Affirmation may be made to Pat Walker, Director of Human Resources, (845) 758-7249 or a review of page 29 & 30 of the Bard College Employee Handbook located at www.bard.edu/employment.
