Does the institution have a program that meets the criteria outlined above?:
Yes

A brief description of the program(s):

Bard recently received a grant from the Mellon Foundation for the development of the Environmental and Urban Studies program. This grant includes funding for:

Course replacement incentives for faculty, who teach in EUS but whose primary appointments are in traditional
disciplines, to encourage course contributions and curriculum development, and to hire visiting professors of
practice and postdoctoral fellows for supplementary courses to enhance the curriculum;
(4) Mini research grants for collaborative faculty/student projects, colloquium/capstone presentations, and student
travel to enhance the civic engagement component of the program.

A brief description of the incentives that faculty members who participate in the program(s) receive:

Because we seek to expand and refine our currently existing but limited EUS course offerings, we must be able to
offer heretofore unavailable course releases so that faculty can devote time to curricular design and implementation. We also need course releases to encourage greater faculty teaching within the new program’s framework, along with funds to allow the College to replace participating faculty within their disciplinary homes. Course releases will enable professors to devote more time to enhance their course content.
