Within the Ethical Purchasing Policy at Laurier the following standards are listed in order to legislate against the purchase of products from vendors who practice said conduct:
1. Forced Labour
2. Child Labour
3. Harassment or Abuse - not tolerated
4. Discrimination
5. Hours of Work - comply with national standards
6. Right to Freedom of Association and the Right to Bargain Collectively - must be in place
7. Wages and Other Compensation - standards are met
8. Health and Safety - adequate environmental provisions
9. Employment Relationship - work performed must be on the basis of recognized employment relationship established through national law and practice
10. Reproductive rights - must exist (No employee or prospective employee shall be subjected to the involuntary use of contraceptives or pregnancy testing)

Our draft Furniture Policy (document is attached below and we are applying everything outlined in the document and have been for a number of years) states the following: Facilities and Asset Management Department is responsible for developing and maintaining furnishings, fittings, equipment and finishes that are manufactured with sustainable practices and materials, meet commercial grade specifications, conform to Wilfrid Laurier’s AODA (The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) standards and function safety.

Approved standards that must be met include:
11.03 Follow sustainable practices, following current requirements for testing, emissions and toxicity.
11.04 Support Wilfrid Laurier’s Sustainability Policy
