A brief description of the themed housing, including name(s) and descriptions of theme(s):
The Sustainability co-op (SCOOP) is a small residential complex where all members have applied and been interviewed by previous SCOOP residents. This residence hall holds 12 students and is completely student run. The SCOOP offers an opportunity to pursue sustainable living in all aspects of life, from meals (students are off of the college meal plan, which allows them to cook and eat sustainably) to energy and water usage. With the support of Facilities and the Office of Sustainability, the co-op features a number of upgrades such as LEDS, energy saving appliances such as refrigerators and dishwashers, and window quilt shades to maximize heating and cooling energy efficiency. To this end they tabulate their water usage and actively investigate ways of reducing their emissions and overall impact on the environment.
