Does the institution have an active student group focused on sustainability?:
Yes

The name and a brief description of each student group:

Wellesley Energy and Environmental Defense, better know as WEED, aims to promote and enhance environmentally friendly practices on campus in order to lessen Wellesley's impact on the environment. Throughout the year, WEED coordinates a number of campus wide events and demonstrations, hosts a month long inter-dorm energy competition, and invites speakers onto the campus to give public lectures to the student body.

WEED is an active participant in the Green Umbrella environmental supergroup comprised of different green organizations on campus. This organization brings together the diverse green organizations at Wellesley. One example is the Slow Food WC Chapter, which focuses on sustainability within the food system. Another is Students for a Just and Stable Future, the Wellesley’s branch of statewide, student-led network which campaigns for bold, tangible solutions to the climate crisis on campus-wide and regional level. Additionally, the Green Umbrella also hosts El Table (the sustainable co-op cafe), SCOOP (the sustainable living co-op), Regeneration farm, and the Outing Club. The Umbrella also hosts groups from Babson and Olin.

List up to 4 notable recent activities or accomplishments of student group(s):

- The Green Umbrella formed in 2011.
- The Outing Club submitted a bike share project proposal to the green fund. It was accepted, and in the summer of 2012 we are implementing an institutional bike sharing program. The program is now being monitored by WEED and the Office of Sustainability
- Students from WEED went down to the national conference "Power Shift".
