"Wellesley College considers environmental sustainability to be an important component of its core mission. As part of this commitment, the college will consider sustainability as a commitment, the college will consider sustainability as a factor in all institutional decisions. Members of the Wellesley community have individual and collective responsibility for environmental stewardships".

This statement, which is now being incorporated across the college, was developed by the Sustainability Advisory Committee and it was adopted by the college president in February 2007.

A brief description of the sustainability coordinator’s position:

The Director of Sustainability is responsible for ensuring that the college meets the Four Aspirational Goals outlined by the Sustainability Advisory Committee.

In addition he designs new initiatives to be implemented across campus. He also works closely with students and the academic community to fund, support, and publicize student and community programs.

The Director of Sustainability works with departments and facilities to promote sustainability, helps carry out SAC initiatives, and devises innovative ways for Wellesley to move toward a more sustainable future.

The intern will work with the current Director of Sustainability to spearhead a first-year orientation sustainability program, help revamp the College's recycling program, research and gather data on current behavior, and work during the academic year to increase student involvement on sustainability initiatives.
