A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):

During the summer before arriving on campus all new students are sent a pamphlet on sustainability activities on campus.

The Sustainability Office works with the Residential Life office to offer training to the 200 campus student leaders on sustainability initiatives, programming ideas, the impacts of climate change, and environmental justice.

During Freshman orientation, the first welcome BBQ is a zero-waste event with education signage discussing the benefits of composting and reducing waste. New students are approached by members of the sustainability committee during their first board meal with pledges encouraging them to commit to reducing waste at the dining hall. About one-third of the freshman class signed a pledge.

The Sustainability Office hosts an open house in the first month of the semester to introduce students to the space and acquaint them to the opportunities to get involved on campus.
