Since 2013, Princeton's Office of Institutional Research has conducted a longitudinal survey of campus sustainability culture, by assessing sustainability beliefs and behaviors of all incoming first-year students and outgoing seniors.

The survey is comprised of one broad question on sustainability beliefs, and 11 specific questions on sustainability behavior.

The survey is conducted is of the entire first-year and senior classes.


A brief summary of results from the cultural assessment:

Regarding the concept of sustainability, while responses for economic and environmental factors have stayed relatively stable over time, the selection of social factors has risen since 2013.

Regarding sustainability behavior, while the Class of 2024 provided responses similar to those provided by previous cohorts, the perspectives and prior experiences of first-year students are incrementally changing over time.
