A brief description of how and when the cultural assessment(s) were developed and/or adopted:

The Sustainability Culture Assessment Survey had questions based on the Yale Climate Survey, though it included questions specific to Kean University. The format involved a mix of drop-down questions, matrix questions, and sliders. The survey began with a request for consent, and withholding consent ended the survey outright. The survey questions were broken up into parts. The first part sampled how students felt about climate
change and global warming. This included beliefs on if global warming is happening and why, how worried they are, and who or what they think global warming will harm and when.

To date, 920 undergraduate students (almost 10% of our student population) have completed the survey.

A brief description of how representative samples were reached (if applicable) and how the cultural assessment is administered:

An email with the survey link was circulated to all faculty on the Sustainability Task Force to share with their departments and with all faculty teaching our sophomore GE course required of all students (Research and Technology). Students at satellite campuses where this course is not offered were emailed directly. In addition, student volunteers stood outside of our student center on campus once a week for a month and tried to recruit passers-by to take the survey using a flyer with a QR code.

A brief summary of results from the cultural assessment:

A majority of participants found Kean to be effective in their sustainable efforts (31% strongly agree, 30% somewhat agree). Approximately 65% strongly agree or somewhat agree that Kean is preparing them to be a climate literate citizen. Amazingly, 88% strongly or somewhat agreed that Kean should pay more attention to sustainability and climate change issues.
