Whether its the Undergraduate, Law or Medical School each has either sustainability related or focused courses. Going forward the university has established a Sustainability Education Committee to further incorporate sustainability into the curriculum and educational experience.

The university's Environmentally Preferable Procurement Policy drives many of the university's sustainable purchasing behaviors from the requirement of only purchasing Energy Star equipment and EPEAT registered computers, to the preference for third party certified cleaning products. In addition, the procurement department has a code of conduct and gives preferential treatment to historically underutilized businesses.

Nearly 90 percent of students commute to campus via environmentally preferable means. The new RideShare program facilitates carpooling at all campuses, and no new parking spaces have been added for six years at three of the campuses. The university also provides a free shuttle service that links the campus with local light rail stations and bus terminals. A partnership with a local car-sharing program makes 25 vehicles available for rental.In addition, Yeshiva University and Einstein College of Medicine are actively involved in promoting efforts to build and make operational a rail line and railroad station at Morris Park.

Yeshiva University strives to reduce waste from its landfills. The university works to recycle paper, cardboard, plastic, metal and glass as well as non-traditional products such as electronic equipment, toner and printer cartridges, clothing, and books, among others. As a part of these initiatives, all graduate and undergraduate campuses participate in the annual RecycleMania competition where the university continuously ranks in the top 15 for plastic, metal and glass recycling.

The average age of YU buildings is over 40 years. In order to improve water efficiency across the university, many plumbing fixtures have been upgraded to meeting the new EPA WaterSense or 1992 Energy Policy Act. Additional water conservation audits are being planned for the near future.

Sustainability initiatives are managed through the Office of Energy & Sustainability within the Procurement Department. Two full time staff work to develop these iniatives and programs.
In addition, the university has a Sustainability & Energy Task Force that is made of a diverse group of internal stakeholders from the Yeshiva's various campuses. This committee works to increase sustainability awareness on campus as well as meet the goals of the university's Climate Action Plan.
