A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:

Yeshiva University works with a number of organizations on sustainability within the community. We have and continue to partner with groups such as: The Inwood & Washington Heights Go Green Steering Committee, Clean Air NY, Partnership for Parks, and New York Restoration Project (NYRP), 511NY RideShare, GrowNYC and others.

At Einstein, we currently work with our local Community Advisory Council, Community Board 11, and other neighborhood healthcare organizations (e.g., Jacobi Hospital, Calvary Hospital) to promote mass transit to/from our Morris Park neighborhood. The objective is to mobilize Einstein employees and neighborhood organizations to support a proposal by the MTA to build and make operational a rail line and railroad station at Morris Park. This would have major implications for hundreds of Einstein employees as well residents and businesses in our immediate area. For example, it will make commuting to/from Einstein to Manhattan much easier, as rail service will be available to Penn Station (20 minutes away); currently the only way to get into Manhattan from Morris Park is via car, bus, or subway transportation. Once at Penn Station, individuals can also transfer to Amtrak service to Washington, DC. Similarly, there will be a rail connection “up the line” to Westchester County and Connecticut, with connections to AMTRAK service to Boston. Einstein is working with every major community organization in our area to make this major sustainability effort a reality.

Additionally, the Office of Communications and Public Affairs at Einstein actively promotes partnerships with business, faculty, students and employees to support a number of sustainability efforts. These include: promoting the use of Zip Cars, as well as participation in a food coop, managed by students and employees; bike to work and car-pooling programs; and a bus shuttle service to affiliate hospitals, as well as local subway stops.
