A brief description of the formal sustainability course designation program:

The Institute for Sustainability and Resilience stewards the designation of sustainability-focused courses at UH Mānoa. The “SUST” course reference number is used to cross-list sustainability-focused courses with the Institute for Sustainability and Resilience. This review process is stewarded by a multi-disciplinary curriculum committee, on which currently six faculty from different units on campus hold two-year appointments (representing the School of Ocean and Earth Sciences and Technology, the College of Natural Sciences, the College of Engineering, the School of Hawaiian Knowledge, the College of Tropical Agricultural and Human Resources, and the College of Social Sciences).

The courses offered during the three semesters surveyed (Fall 2020, Spring 2021, Summer 2021) that were designated SUST were counted as Sustainability-Focused.
