A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:

Mālama I Nā Ahupuaʻa (MINA):
The Mālama I Nā Ahupuaʻa (MINA) program facilitates students working alongside venerated elders, and cultural and community leaders, to learn traditional land maintenance, preservation and restoration methods. Organized by community partners, faculty and student leaders, MINA runs four semesters a year and welcomes ʻohana and students from all disciplines enrolled at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Kapiʻolani Community College and other institutions of higher education. Individuals and groups of all ages are welcome to participate in its short-term programs or one-time activities. The program is built around a series of common core activities and optional specialization. Common core activities at the introductory level include opening and closing sessions, as well as an upland (heiau), a midland (lo’i) and a lowland (fishpond) activity.

Study Abroad in Lille, France:
The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Study Abroad Center offers undergraduate students the opportunity to study for the summer in Lille, France. On-site, the program is coordinated by the European Summer Program at Université Catholique de Lille (Catholic University of Lille).The program is intensive, with students in class five days a week, from 9:00 to 4:00. The curriculum focuses in depth on issues of sustainability including climate change, corporate responsibility and renewable energy. Class titles include Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development, Sustainable Cities, Renewable Energies: a Focus on Solar Energy and Understanding Challenges of Climate Change. Through this immersive educational experience, students gain a greater understanding of sustainability and climate change.
