A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:

Staff Development and Professional Services (SD&PS) runs an online New Employee Orientation (eNEO) as well as an in-person Benefits Orientation and a quarterly UC Davis New Employee Welcome that all new employees have access to.

eNEO includes the Office of Sustainability's website URL. New employees also watch a video about turning campus olives, which used to be a waste material, into olive oil. eNEO includes the following information about campus sustainability: Dining Services' sustainability efforts - “…as part of our commitment to a sustainable future, UC Davis food services use innovative techniques to achieve the 4 Rs—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rebuy. We are committed to achieving our goal of zero waste by 2020.”

UC Davis New Employee Welcome, which is a quarterly acculturation event for new academic and staff employees, includes a resource fair where more than 50 campus organizations, including the Office of Sustainability, Energy Conservation Office, Aggie Surplus, Worklife, and Transportation Services. The resource fair participants provide information to attendees regarding campus programs such as the following:

- Office of Sustainability’s Aggie Green Pledge and Green Workplace programs

-Transportation Services' alternative transportation options and the goClub

-the availability of on and off-campus farmers markets

-WorkLife, which encompasses dependent care, health and wellness, financial support, career flexibility, and community involvement

-numerous health and safety policies and practices, including health center locations and related programs

-Campus-sponsored education and development opportunities

-UC Continuing and Professional Education, the professional and continuing education arm of the university, which offers several sustainability-related courses and certificates

The two-hour program also includes a 15-minute presentation by Campus Planning and Environmental Stewardship, highlighting alternative energy efforts, alternative transportation programs and other sustainability efforts, along with a presentation on the Principles of Community. UC Davis Principles of Community underlie campus efforts towards diversity, equity and inclusion.

Additional resources and programs for social sustainability include:

- The annual campus-wide celebration of the rich diversity of UC Davis “Soaring to New Heights”

-The Campus Community Book Project

-Living the Principles of Community e-course

-Diversity Education – Professional Development Programs

-Administrative Advisory Committees from the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

In Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS), when an employee is on boarded with Human Resources, they are given a handout that gives an overview of sustainability practices in SHDS and a webpage URL where they can find more information. See attachment for more information.
