Ecology and Conservation of the Atlantic Rainforest of Northeastern Brazil

During the Winter 2019 break, this non-credit course will be offered to travel to Bahia, Brazil to experience and learn about the biodiversity, ecology and conservation of the Atlantic Rainforest. Preparatory readings, custom species identification guides and optional Portuguese language instruction will be provided. The trip itself will be approximately 10-12 days in duration and will involve travel to the Michelin Center for Biodiversity Studies in Itubera, where participants will stay at an ecological research station, visit a variety of local ecosystems, interact with local researchers, and learn about the research and restoration activities taking place there. Students wishing to take this class for credit will also have the option of taking SCIE-210H Independent Research in Science & Engineering (3 credits) as a guided study, with additional costs and assignments required.
