- Submeter by building; low flow sinks and toilets;
- Radford University uses water pressure sensors in numerous buildings that includes alarms on low/high water pressure that is shared with campus facilities management operators and Radford City Water Department.

Energy
- Energy Management Program (see attached): BAS; Submeter by building; In new buildings and major renovations, temperature controls are adjustable within a 4 degree range (2 up, 2 down). Additionally, rooms are equipped with occupancy sensors and some with CO2 sensors.; New capital construction will include LED lighting – with exception for specialty lighting. Energy Use Intensity used to monitor and improve energy efficiency in buildings. Radford University uses steam pressure sensors in numerous buildings, including alarms for low/high steam pressure that is shared with Boiler Plant operators and operational personnel. See attached.

Recycling Program at Radford University

Purpose
Radford University recognizes its role as a leader in the community with regard to environmental policies and promotes responsible stewardship of the environmental resources under its influence. The overall purpose of this recycling program is to set forth standards and organizational processes aimed at waste minimization, recycling, and the diversion of recyclable materials from landfills.

Objectives
1. Reduce waste at the source (Waste Minimization).
2. Encourage the purchase and use of environmentally friendly products.
3. Encourage the purchase of high post-consumer content recycled products.
4. Increase the total volume of waste materials diverted from landfills to recycling processes.
5. Ensure long term viability of campus recycling operations through coordination and managerial oversight.
6. Promote recycling practices and procedures throughout the campus community.
7. Comply with Federal and State mandates in recycling processes.

Definitions
Waste minimization - to reduce the amount of waste generated
Recycling streams - sorted recyclable materials
Life-cycle cost - cost of a system or product over the entire lifespan

Program
All departments that generate waste at Radford University should make waste minimization and recycling a top priority and an integral component of their daily operations. Each department shall consider the life-cycle costs and environmental aspects associated with purchases and are encouraged to purchase items with recycled content and minimal wastes and packaging as appropriate. Every employee and student has the responsibility to exercise these behaviors, making Radford University a more sustainable campus and helping to reduce our carbon footprint.

Procedures
Every student, employee and department shall recycle materials as current recycling streams allow. Radford University recycling operations cover a main commingled recycling stream and various alternate recycling streams:

Main Recycling Stream – Single Stream or Commingled:
• Mixed Paper
• Containers (Cans/Glass/Plastics #1 and #2)

Alternate Recycling Streams (include but are not limited to):
• Cardboard
• Batteries
• Electronic Waste
• Motor Oil
• Antifreeze
• Kitchen Grease
• Tires
• Toner Cartridges
• Scrap Metal
• Reusable Construction Waste
• Pallets

Process
On campus, clean single stream recyclables are placed in appropriate recycling bins. In buildings, recycling is consolidated by Housekeeping staff and relocated to the outside of the building where it is picked up by RU Waste and Recycling Technicians. Outdoor single stream recycling bins are serviced by RU Waste and Recycling Technicians.

For alternate recycling streams, contact RU Recycling at 540-831-7207 or submit a work order with Facilities Management Work Control at 540-381-7800.

Guidelines
Beginning August 1, 2018: Radford University Campus Recycling Guidelines for Mixed Recycling
• Mixed/Single Stream/Commingled Recycling: plastic, glass, metal and paper together
• Accepting Plastics #1 and #2 (they will no longer accept Plastics #3 - #7)
• Accepting all office paper, newspaper, magazines, cereal/paper boxes
• Accepting metal - tin/steel cans and aluminum beverage cans
• Accepting glass food and beverage containers
