School Assistance & Community Volunteer Service Leave
Leave under this policy may be used for providing volunteer service for non-profit organizations or for school assistance. School Assistance and Community Volunteer Service leave is earned at the rate of 16 hours every January 10; however, rates of earnings are prorated for employees who are not full-time. Any unused hours will expire the following year on January 9 and a new 16 hours will post January 10. This leave type requires prior approval and supervisors may require documentation.

Members of volunteer fire departments and rescue squads, or auxiliary units thereof, shall be granted paid leave of up to 24 hours under this policy in accordance with §2.2-2821.2 of the Code of Virginia.

- MLK 2022 – 153, 65 hours, $250 dollars
- FSL Fall 2021 - 462 volunteers, $7,785 donated, 3,000 volunteer hours
- ReNew the New: 152; 4 hours each; 608 hours
- Adventures for Change: Fall 2019 -27 participants – 198 hours
Spring 2020 -23 participants – 164 hours
- Sports Clubs - 90 hours and 879 items donated
- Citizen Leader - 54 volunteers; 170 hours
- Student Government Association - 22 @ 3 hrs each: 66 hours; 50 @ 6 hrs each: 300 hours

1 – FSL = Fraternity & Sorority Life and they had 462 members in the fall semester.
2 – RGB had approximately 300 attendees at the event although likely many, many more donating.
3 – MLK had 153 sign up to participate, no firm count on how many individuals donated as there were multiple methods to contribute.
4 – Sports Clubs had 90 hours and 879 items donated in the fall!

We don't have any central database to track community service. RU's Division of Student Activities is in the process of implementing this tracking system.
