IL-7: External Funding Disclosure

An institution earns 1 bonus point when it publishes or requires its researchers to publish all external funding in a format that allows the public to identify potential conflicts of interest, e.g., by embedding a financial interest disclosure in the text of published work. Partial points are available. An institution that publishes or requires its researchers to publish all external funding from at least one targeted sector (e.g., the fossil fuel industry) earns 0.5 bonus points.

Measurement

Report on current policies and practices. 

To qualify, an institution must require funding disclosure irrespective of whether or not individual journals require disclosure. A policy or practice that simply defers to the policies of the journals in which research is published does not qualify.
