The University of Houston–Downtown established the Center for Urban Agriculture and Sustainability (CUAS) in with the vision of providing Houston citizens with the knowledge and resources to build sustainable neighborhoods throughout the city. CUAS is committed to developing sustainable solutions and raising student awareness in order to create stable urban ecosystems, engage community participation in sustainability, and increase urban food production.

Primary Duties of the Sustainability Coordinator
1. Mentor students engaged in urban agriculture and sustainability issues and projects. Sustainability Coordinator will oversee all logistics of the student projects including budget, meeting project time-lines and supporting students so they may be successful in their projects.
2. Representing the CUAS, establish and maintain relationships with staff, faculty, students, and beyond the campus to provide opportunities for education, outreach, research, and volunteering on urban agriculture and sustainability.
3. Conduct research and collect data for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) via the Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System (STARS)
4. Manage CUAS budgets including establishing vendors in the system, creation of requisitions, processing of invoices, and reconciliation of CUAS credit card on a monthly basis.
5. Work with the Director of CUAS to organize community education classes, seminars and workshops on the topics of sustainability or urban agriculture that would benefit students, faculty and staff, and the community.
6. Build collaborative partnerships with other educational institutions, businesses, government and non-profit organizations to further engage campus and the community in sustainability programs and practices.
7. Create and maintain event marketing materials, presentations, and website as well as establish a social media presence for CUAS.
8. Mentor the UHD Garden and Compost Club and provide support and coordination to maintain the UHD Sustainability Garden.
9. Research and maintain knowledge of best practices with regards to sustainability, participate in conferences and related events to identify new ideas and practices as well as to communicate UHD CUAS’s initiatives.
10. Perform other related duties incidental to the work of the CUAS.
