UHD supports local and medium sized enterprises on Food Truck Tuesdays/Thursdays. This event contracts small businesses with less than 500 employees.

UHD's food service contractor, Compass Group, extensively promotes plant based dining. Across the UH system, at least 30% of our offerings are plant-based. We also diligently monitor our serving portions for many reasons but most importantly to help decrease waste.

We have a WasteNot 2.0 system. This system measures and tracks waste. We then evaluate our data to identify areas of improvement and create action plans as necessary.

UHD has implemented trayless dining as part of its contractor's (Compass Group) "Balanced U" program which addresses four basic tenets of sustainable and socially responsible business practices. These tenets are to EAT Green, RUN Green, RETURN Green, and BUILD Green.

Yes, University of Houston-Downtown Dining Services offers recyclable and compostable disposable packaging on some of its items to minimize the impact our disposable products have on the environment. When choosing disposable products, University of Houston-Downtown Dining Services considers two issues: source and biodegradability. We offer biodegradable consumer food packaging, plates, and utensils made from compostable materials such as bamboo and corn. We help support client efforts to establish capture systems by partnering with sustainable waste management and/or recycling service companies.
