A brief description of notable policies or programs to make the institution accessible and affordable to low-income students:

There are multiple opportunities for students to minimize the cost of attendance through the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

University Grants and Financial Aid Trust Grants are need-based awards.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG). The FSEOG Program provides need-based grants to help low-income undergraduate students to finance the cost of postsecondary education.

The Pell Grant is need-based financial aid. Pell Grant funding is guaranteed for all Pell eligible students. Pell grants may be awarded to eligible undergraduate students who are enrolled less than full time for the term. The award amounts are pro-rated based on enrolled hours.

Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a need-based program that provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses.

TEACH Grants provide a grant award to students who will be going into the field of teaching to serve as a high-qualified teacher at a low-income school or educational service agency.
NAU launched our Access2Excellence program to broaden access to higher education and increase attainment of valuable postsecondary credentials for Arizona residents – fueling economic and social mobility in Arizona and throughout the nation. Through this program, NAU is guaranteeing tuition coverage for undergraduate Arizona residents who have an income up to $65,000. NAU is also committed to expanding educational opportunities for Indigenous and Native American students, so students who are members of Arizona’s 22 recognized tribes automatically qualify for Access2Excellence.

A brief description of notable policies or programs to support non-traditional students:

In recent years, NAU developed a new strategic plan titled NAU 2025 – Elevating Excellence. Found within this new strategic plan is a new vision, mission, and commitment to be the nation’s preeminent engine of opportunity, vehicle of economic mobility, and driver of social impact by delivering equitable postsecondary value in Arizona and beyond. One of the many goals within the strategic plan is to broaden access to more Arizonans by providing equitable, affordable, and seamless pathways to higher education, resulting in a student population that reflects the State and complements our exceptional out-of-state and international student populations. This goal has provided the foundation for many new initiatives at NAU.

NAU launched ScholarshipUniverse, a scholarship-matching and search portal for all NAU students in which students can research and apply for various internal and external scholarships. This platform connects NAU students to millions of dollars in scholarships offered by the university and outside organizations.

NAU launched our Access2Excellence program to broaden access to higher education and increase the attainment of valuable postsecondary credentials for Arizona residents – fueling economic and social mobility in Arizona and throughout the nation.

The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid works with tribes, tribal organizations, and other scholarship organizations to ensure Tribal Aid is awarded to Indigenous students, including non-traditional students within the population.

Transfer Scholarships are also available for transfer students, who are often non-traditional students including the Jacks Transfer Award, 2NAU Scholarship, Phi Theta Kappa scholarship, All Arizona Academic Team Scholarship, and Earn to Learn.

NAU Campus Living also provides a Family Housing option on-campus to students with families.
The NAU CARE Center manages a Childcare Voucher Program to help subsidize the cost of childcare for students with children.
