"The current UMass Boston Sustainability Committee was organized in a meeting with Chancellor Katherine Newman on 19 November, 2019, to advise the Chancellor on sustainability questions and to help coordinate sustainability-related activities on the campus. The current group continues a tradition of sustainability committees that have been active at UMass Boston over the years.

Major roles for the committee include (but are not limited to):
• Facilitating integration of sustainability initiatives across the campus, such as:
o Implementation of the Climate Action Plan.
o Curriculum integration of green infrastructure and initiatives.
o Input for design of green infrastructure.
• Recommending yearly sustainability priorities to the Chancellor.
• Tracking sustainability-related academic programs and courses.
• Serving as a liaison with student sustainability organizations and initiatives.

The Sustainability Committee in envisioned to include members from a cross-section of academic and administrative units, including:
• Chancellor's Office
• Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
• Campus Services including Recycling and Sustainability
• Facilities
• Budget and Financial Planning
• Environmental Health & Safety
• Government Relations and Public Affairs
• Faculty from different colleges
• Library
• Student government

The committee will have a rotating chair and will establish subcommittees as necessary to accomplish each year’s objectives."

Both the Chancellor's Sustainability Committee, and the Sustainability and Resiliency Planner serve as institution-wide coordinating bodies for The University. Having an interdisciplinary committee, as well as having the Sustainability and Resiliency Planner sit on the committee ensures that the campus is connected on matters of sustainability.
