A brief description of the institution’s green infrastructure and LID practices:
UMass Boston provides contractors with stormwater awareness and pollution prevention sheets to educate them on stormwater management. UMB provides designers with the Architecture and Landscape Design Guidelines which contain Low Impact Development guidelines. The Design Guidelines document contains directives for designers to include native plantings, LID principles, permeable pavements, and natural stormwater treatment principles in their designs.

The University utilizes its stormwater management plan to "Incorporate street trees, rain gardens, bio-swales, paving materials and permeable surfaces, with plants and soils collecting rain water to reduce flooding and pollution. Green design elements promote an environmentally sensitive, sustainable use of the public right-of-way."
