A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:

An electronic survey was sent out via a daily employee newsletter for 5 days. The survey identified the distance commuted, identified what their job was by category, i.e. instructor, office employee, athletics, facilities, etc., and what method is used to commute. The percentages of those that participated is thought to accurately reflect how the complete employee body of the campus is broken down.
