1) Ayurveda for Personal and Community Empowerment
The holistic system of Ayurveda is an energetic methodology for understanding and cultivating relationships. The relationships we have with ourselves, with others, with our communities, and with the planet.
Ayurveda is one of the traditional systems of medicine native to India. It has its basis in Samkhya philosophy and has a rich textual tradition spanning centuries across different regions and lineages. Many of the practices found in Ayurveda are home remedies that can be used anywhere and are inexpensive and effective. This allows us to integrate these self-care and community-care techniques in everyday life.

In this workshop, we will focus on these aspects of relationship for activists and change-makers in community. We will address how Ayurveda helps us to cultivate a more empowered and compassionate relationship with ourselves; how we can work with others more effectively; how Ayurvedic teachings can be a vehicle for uplifting communities and spearheading positive social change; and how the teachings of Ayurveda offer a framework for greater ecological understanding

7) Yoga, Ecology, and the Environment

The path to living in harmony with Earth begins not with fixing the environment, but with fixing ourselves – specifically our perceptions about Earth. Our environmental and social problems (e.g., climate change, species extinction, environmentally-linked cancers, genocide, deforestation) are rooted in separation between ourselves and the environment. We need to see everything: Earth, Cosmos, Sun, Worm, Bee, as well as each other with “new eyes”. This workshop will explore how we can connect modern ecology and environmental activism with the teachings of yoga in a way that inspires contemplation and action.
