Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Duquesne University/UPMC Mercy Hospital district steam interconnection.

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

The combined heat and power plant for Duquesne University’s campus district system has been interconnected with the district heating system that feeds UPMC Mercy Hospital. This interconnection will allow for 2 separate plants to work in conjunction with each other to reduce inefficient equipment run times and maximize the potential of the plants. In instances of maintenance on one plant’s equipment, the other plant can provide the necessary steam to the district system. This will eliminate the need for mobile units while maintaining occupant comfort.
