The Climate Action Grant is designed to support student(s), student group(s), faculty, or staff in developing and implementing a project relating to sustainability, climate action, environmental justice, or human interactions with the environment. The intention of this grant is to give community members the resources to be a part of creating positive changes in the Barnard community, and/or piloting solutions that are applicable in New York City and beyond.

Funds for this grant program are raised through programming by Barnard Sustainability.

For 2022-2023, two applications were opened:

1. Climate Action Grants: Open to Barnard students and student groups, faculty, and staff; looking especially for climate action projects that emphasize civic and community engagement, environmental justice, and/or the circular economy.

2. Sustainable Food & Agriculture Grants: Open to student clubs*. This grant will sponsor events and initiatives that explore sustainable food and agriculture practices; looking for especially for projects that emphasize culture, decolonization, food systems justice, or environmental racism. This grant is not designed to simply provide food for events, rather this grant may be used to purchase food for an event if it is a key component of innovative programming that explores food and culture in alignment with your club or organization's core mission.

*Student Clubs refers to recognized Barnard clubs and some recognized Columbia clubs. Columbia student clubs that meet regularly on Barnard’s campus, or that have Barnard students for 50% or more of their leadership team qualify.

Incentives - Grants awarded will range from $250-$500.
