Seneca’s organization-wide competency model is under development and includes sustainability as a core competency which not only highlights Seneca’s commitment to sustainability but demonstrates actionable steps to ensure that it is embedded in everything we do. Seneca provides employees with access to ample internal and external professional development and training opportunities in sustainability.

Opportunities include internally hosted webinars and courses that focus on today’s pertinent issues delivered by both internal and external experts, such as knowledge sharing about the campus initiatives related to our landscape, the beehives and sustainability lifestyle workshops to measure the employees' carbon footprint and strategies to reduce it.

The tuition subsidy program provides all full-time and part-time employees with a reduced tuition fee for all eligible courses offered through Seneca’s Faculty of Continuing Education and Training. 18.6% of the courses available to be taken are sustainability related.


A brief description of any external professional development and training opportunities in sustainability that are supported by the institution :

In addition to this, Seneca offers three different professional development funding programs available to employees that they may to build their knowledge and application of sustainability – this includes the Tuition Assistance and Professional Development Leaves programs.

Seneca’s professional development funding programs may be leveraged by eligible employees to pursue academic advancement from accredited external institutions in sustainability as it relates to their roles and/or future potential roles at Seneca.

In addition, Seneca’s employees have free access to LinkedIn Learning, which offers over 1,400 courses, certifications and videos related to sustainability.
