A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability:
The partnership aims to tackle this challenge by networking and developing partnerships with other organizations. Also, it ensures that members of underrepresented groups are allowed to participate and voice their concerns. The partnership is not set to finish in a short period as climate change tends to fluctuate in its influence on society. Climate change can not be easily defeated in a limited time; it is a process that requires patience and effort from all parties involved.

The Santa Barbara County Regional Climate Collaborative, founded in the spring of 2020, is a network of public agencies, non-profit and for-profit groups, and community-based organizations that aim to combat climate change in the local Santa Barbara area. The Collaborate seeks to achieve this goal by identifying priority areas that the region needs to focus on, planning strategies to combat climate change, gathering information/research needs, and advocating for regional initiatives and support at the state and federal levels.

The Santa Barbara County Regional Climate Collaborative hosts subcommittees such as Clean Energy Assurance; Natural Lands, Working Farms & Regenerative Agriculture; and Sea Level Rise Adaptation. The subcommittees identify topic-specific challenges requiring regional collaboration, engage stakeholders conduct in-depth analysis, and recommend policies and projects for the Collaborative to pursue. One example of a regional project that the Collaborative is undertaking is a regional greenhouse gas inventory, which will standardize data across municipalities in the region.

Also, in the Equity Advisory & Outreach committee, one of the many subcommittees that are a part of the collaborative partnership, Ground Rules document, it asserts “The Equity Advisory & Outreach Committee will strive toward a consensus recommendation and achieve its decisions by a quorum made up of a majority of the members who are present and voting, which for this process will be greater than 50% of the members. No business can be conducted if fewer members than a quorum are present”.
