Criteria
An institution earns 1 bonus point when it has developed or issued new carbon offsets from one or more off-campus carbon mitigation projects during the previous three years that are verified by qualified peer reviewers rather than (or in addition to) conventional third party verifiers.
Measurement
Report on off-campus projects that have resulted in peer-verified carbon offsets within the previous three years.
A project may follow an existing protocol (e.g., approved or endorsed by the Gold Standard, the Verified Carbon Standard, the Climate Action Reserve, or the American Carbon Registry) or a new protocol developed and peer-reviewed by higher education institutions (e.g., approved by The Offset Network), as long as the project is subject to peer verification.
Applicability
This credit is optional.
