A sustainability survey was developed by the Director of Sustainability in 2016 and is administered annually as part of the broader Facilities, Architects, Safety and Technology (FAST) Department survey.

A brief description of how representative samples were reached (if applicable) and how the cultural assessment is administered:

The survey was administered electronically to all faculty, staff and students in January 2018.

2,089 responses were received, 73% of which were students.

The survey tool covers a range of topics relating to Facilities Services so it is not skewed toward those predisposed to an interest in sustainability.


A brief summary of results from the cultural assessment:

78.5% of respondents indicated that the sustainability reputation of their organization matters to them.

58.6% of respondents indicated that their concern about environmental issues has grown due to events, activities and/or courses offered by CSU.

84.16% of respondents indicated that CSU has a responsibility to reduce its environmental impact through energy, water, and waste conservation initiatives.

80.38% of respondents believe that CSU demonstrates a commitment to environmental sustainability.
