A brief description of the institution’s green infrastructure and LID practices:
Through standard stormwater management practices, York University uses Low Impact Development practices to ensure that as little impact on the natural hydrological cycle is made. York University uses multiple natural features for stormwater management, such as: bioswales, vegetated roofs, natural stormwater retention ponds and permeable pavement.

Through standard stormwater management practices, York University uses Low Impact Development practices to ensure that as little impact on the natural hydrological cycle is made. York University uses multiple natural features for stormwater management, such as vegetated roofs, permeable pavement, bioretention facilities, rooftop detention strorage and bwloe grade detention storage.
1) The University has eight full and/or partial green roofs which helps to reduce the quantity and improve the quality of stormwater runoff.
2) The Landscape of the Life Sciences Building at York University incorporates a rainwater harvesting and filtration system that supplies water for flushing and cleaning of laboratory areas, an on-site stormwater attenuation, filtration and infiltration systems. The system is currently not in use but is being investigated by researchers for experiential learning opportunities.
3) The process of designing the Second Student Centre was guided by LID practies to implement more sustainable stormwater management planning and design practices, with feautures such as bioswales and green roofs.
4)York's Keele campus has two storm water retention ponds - Stong Pond, and the Tennis Canada Pond.
