The Sustainability Strategy was originally published in 2017 will to help advance our roadmap with our commitments to achieving net zero carbon emissions. The new strategy is aimed to be released in the Summer of 2024. All York University community members are encouraged to engage in the process and are invited to complete the survey or participate in a workshop to share comments and interest.

The survey is based on the Sustainability Strategy from 2017 and is divided in the three pillars of "People", "Knowledge" and "Place".

York University has been tracking accomplishments and progress on achieving the goals outlined in the first sustainability strategy - a progress report can be found here: https://www.yorku.ca/sustainability/reports/

A brief description of how representative samples were reached (if applicable) and how the cultural assessment is administered:
On October 12, 2023, the Office of Sustainability sent an institution-wide email informing students and staff of a community consultation period about York University's new Sustainability Strategy Renewal plan. This strategy is critical to ensuring we meet our bold sustainability commitments and uphold our collective responsibility for environmental stewardship.

Consultations are being lead by Mike Layton, Chief Sustainability Officer, and be open to all students, faculty, instructors, staff and alumni. Through the renewal of the strategy, we hope to build awareness, create opportunities to engage all members of our community on sustainability-related topics, promote sustainability as one of our core values, generate feedback to inform the new strategy and inspire lifelong commitment to create positive change through environmental sustainability.

A brief summary of results from the cultural assessment:
As of date, the assessment is still ongoing. We are expecting to see results in 2024.
