SDG Student Hub
A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
The SDG Student Hub at York University is a student-driven initiative targeted towards learning, engaging, and acting on the SDGs at York University and locally. The SDG Hub is a partnership between York and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). Students can join the SDG Hub to network with other students at York University and other SDSN-member universities, learn critical skills and earn credits towards the SDG Students Program Certificate, a non-credit certificate jointly developed by SDSN Youth, the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens and the SDG Academy. Hub members can meet fellow students who share a passion for the Sustainable Development Goals, they network to share ideas, collaborate on solutions, and meet professionals working in sustainability.
To earn the certificate, students must fulfill requirements in three components focusing on learning about, engaging with and taking action on the SDGs. In 2021, the Hub planned two types of events to help students achieve the certificate: ‘Education,’ which helps students achieve the engagement component of the certificate, and ‘Solutions,’ which helps students achieve the action component.

Sustainability Champions Network
A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):
The Sustainability Champions Network is a peer mentoring and engagement program intended to foster a community of sustainability and climate action throughout York University. Through this program, student volunteers affiliated with the Office of Sustainability increase sustainability engagement and awareness by participating in tabling events and classroom presentations. One of the main goals of this program is to inform students of academic and extracurricular resources and engagement opportunities on how to get involved. The student volunteers help to build individual and campus-wide awareness and engagement on climate action, the Sustainable Development Goals, the University’s Sustainability Strategy, and much more. This helps to foster a community and culture of sustainability throughout York University while providing volunteers with experiential learning and professional development opportunities.
This past year as part of our Sustainability Champions Network we had a team of placement students who went into classrooms to do peer-to-peer engagement and discuss awareness of sustainability and the consultation process for the renewal of our sustainability strategy and how students can take action on campus.
