York’s Institute for Research and sustainability (IRIS) conducted a “Campus Accessibility Survey in 2012. The Accessibility Survey was launched to help develop a plan for improvements to the physical environment, reduce barriers and increase accessibility at York University. The expected development on campus, over the next several years is expected to increase accessibility.

A brief description of the employee diversity and employment equity assessment(s):
York University participates in the Federal Contractors Program (FCP) under the Employment Equity Act, and is required to monitor its representation with respect to four designated groups: women, visible minorities, persons with disabilities and Aboriginal peoples. York University conducts a Self-Identification Survey in order to ensure that representation statistics are up-to-date. Having an up-to-date picture of workforce representation allows the University to identify where under-representation exists, and to target efforts towards removing barriers that may exist in recruitment, hiring, training, retention and promotion practices.
