The cafeteria’s run by York’s Food Services all include signage that highlights sustainable food choices. All coffee is Fair Trade and has signs located above it explaining what Fair Trade coffee is.

Professor L. Anders Sandberg leads an “Alternative Campus Tour” that allow students to explore and learn about the provision of drinking water, security and safety, the presence of exotic species on campus, storm water management, community gardens, art, green roofs, and the campus woodlots. The stories and information that are shared during the tour build an understanding of current campus features, while encouraging action towards building a better future. Tours are held on multiple dates during the spring months, when all campus features are visible and accessible.

Transportation Services hosts information on using alternative methods of transportation on their website. Students and Staff can find information regarding: public transit, shuttle services, car sharing services (Zipcar, Carshare, AutoShare), carpooling services (Smart Commute), and cycling.

The sustainability webpage includes a designated section for useful “green maps.” This includes a cycling map with the locations of bike lockers, racks, paths and lanes. The other maps include waste management locations, water refill locations and public transportation locations.

The Office of the President releases an annual sustainability report, which consists of two major sections. The first section is a report from the President’s Sustainability Council (PCS), which provides a detailed overview of the institution’s progress on sustainable initiatives proposed by the PCS from previous years, followed by a section containing new sustainability suggestions. The Department of Campus services and Business Operations provide the second section. This portion of the report contains facts and figures on the institution’s energy consumption, atmospheric emissions, water consumption, waste production and diversion, biodiversity and transportation.
