Environmental Studies
A brief description of the undergraduate degree program:
Yale offers the Environmental Studies (EVST) major, which is grounded in chemistry, biology, math and statistics prerequisites. Students then delve into humanities and social science courses that focus on the environment. From this broad foundation, students build a strong area of concentration and conduct senior research. Many EVST graduates continue their career development by enrolling in top tier professional and graduate schools, studying law, business, medicine, planning or public health, as well as academic fields such as ecology, geology, economics, and history. In addition, many majors go on to careers in non-profit organizations, governmental positions, or work in the corporate sector.

Name of the sustainability-focused undergraduate minor or concentration:
Energy Studies
A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration:
Yale offers Multidisciplinary Academic Programs instead of minors. There are currently four of these, and those in Energy Studies and Global Health Studies qualify as sustainability-related.
Energy Studies is a multidisciplinary academic program (MAP) in Yale College. The curriculum is designed to provide selected undergraduates with the knowledge and skills needed for advanced studies, leadership, and success in energy-related fields. The grand challenge for these fields in the 21st century is to deploy sustainable sources of energy in ways that are less harmful to health and the environment than the combustion of fossil fuels, but are still capable of providing convenient, affordable energy for all of the world’s population.
