A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :
A student intern reviewed the course descriptions for all classes listed in the registrar's database and tagged applicable classes using AASHE criteria. As per the AASHE guidelines, *The following course types were excluded from the first database with the sustainability tags:
- Physical education courses
- Individually-directed courses (i.e. thesis/senior essay, independent study, practicum)
- Performance arts courses (i.e. performing arts and visual arts, including Theatre Studies, Drama, Art and Music courses)
- Language courses
- Clinical courses offered exclusively to doctor’s degree-professional practice students
- Courses capped at four or fewer students

Our data set is provided by the University Registrar. In 2016, the courses included in that system reflected the course offerings for undergraduates and graduate students, but not professional school students. In the interim, the system has been updated to be inclusive of all courses – including those of the 11 professional schools.
