8.1 Food recovery program

Does the institution donate surplus food to a food redistribution program on at least a monthly basis when its dining services are operational?:
Yes

Xavier has a number of initiative around donation of food surpluses and food assistance for the students experiencing hunger. 

We donate leftover concessions food in the amount of 2,160 meals yearly. 31 weeks a year we donate leftover food to the Last Mile Food Rescue https://lastmilefood.org/ approximately 3,100 meals yearly. We donate 150 meals to the schools free store for student breaks. We donate 3% of our profits of our True Burger restaurant to the student free store in food donations amounting to $6,000 yearly. 

One program allows students to donate meal swipes into a pool that student's identified as food insecure can access and use to access the cafeteria in the same manner as their peers.  Another program collects surplus food after home Men's Basketball games and makes it available to students indentified as food insecure.  CHartwells also frequently donates meals to The Store - Xavier's on campus free food pantry, Xavier Jesuit Academy - a local Nativity Miguel Coalition grade school, and the Montesorri Lab school - an on campus montessori school.  Chartwell has also installed a Last Mile Food Rescue box where surplus food can be collected by a local nonprofit to be distributed to area food pantries and shelters.
