A brief description of the carbon sinks, including vendor, project source, verification program and contract timeframes (as applicable):
Williams College purchases offsets after the end of our fiscal year in order to neutralize the college's operational emissions from that fiscal year. For this submission, we purchased offsets to neutralize the FY21 emissions (July 1, 2020-June 30, 2021) in the fall of 2021 and have retired them.
Information about Williams College's offset purchases can be found here:
https://sustainability.williams.edu/energy/carbon-offsets/
More detailed information about the FY20 offsets purchases made through Cool Effect with links to detailed information about each project can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bp3oln1tTpqeGwu29QIjrdyFkoyl3VijJiVZoFWEA4Q/edit
Adjusted net Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions:
Performance year | Baseline year
Adjusted net GHG emissions | 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent | 29,574 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |
Start and end dates of the performance year and baseline year (or three-year periods):
Performance year | Baseline year
Start date | July 1, 2020 | July 1, 2004 |
End date | June 30, 2021 | June 30, 2005 |
A brief description of when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted:
We adopted FY2005 as our baseline for this STARS report because it's the year before the college's first GHG emissions goal was set.
Figures needed to determine “Weighted Campus Users”:
Performance year | Baseline year
Number of students resident on-site | 1,975 | 1,925 |
Number of employees resident on-site | 4 | 0 |
Number of other individuals resident on-site | 0 | 0 |
Total full-time equivalent student enrollment | 2,143 | 2,056 |
Full-time equivalent of employees | 1,140 | 818 |
Full-time equivalent of students enrolled exclusively in distance education | 0 | 0 |
Weighted Campus Users | 2,957 | 2,636.75 |
Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user:
Performance year | Baseline year
Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user | 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent | 11.22 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |
Percentage reduction in adjusted net Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user from baseline:
Gross floor area of building space, performance year:
Floor area of energy intensive building space, performance year:
Floor area | |
Laboratory space | 264,081 Square feet |
Healthcare space | 13,516 Square feet |
Other energy intensive space | 189,176 Square feet |
EUI-adjusted floor area, performance year:
Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per unit of EUI-adjusted floor area, performance year:
A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives:
Williams actively invests in energy conservation and efficiency projects in campus buildings. We invested in the Farmington Solar Project and purchased RECs to zero out our scope two emissions.
