Inventory of the institution’s sustainability research:

An example of the range of sustainability research conducted at Williams is the annually published Field Notes by the Center for Environmental Studies. https://ces.williams.edu/publications/ces-notes/fieldnotes-2019/
These are examples and not exhaustive of the sustainability research being carried out at Williams College.

A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:

The total number of faculty engaged in research reflects the total number of faculty at Williams College. Conducting research, in addition to teaching and institutional service, is a key pillar of faculty responsibility. Although not all faculty are engaged in research at all times or at the same level of intensity, it is reasonable to assume that all faculty at Williams are trained in and pursue research and scholarly inquiry within their respective fields throughout their career.

The number of faculty engaged in sustainability research is based on a review of the faculty profiles of faculty listed as members of or affiliates of the Environmental Studies program (accessible here: https://ces.williams.edu/people/) as well as a survey of the faculty that is affiliated with the Environmental Studies program. The survey asked those affiliated faculty to state if they conduct sustainability research and provide a short description of it. A reminder message was sent and direct follow-up emails were sent to select non-responding faculty whose research we know and would consider sustainability research.
