A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty :
In 1985 Williams College established the Gaius Charles Bolin Fellowships to promote diversity on college faculties by encouraging able minority students to complete the doctoral degree and to pursue careers in college teaching. The Fellowships are named for Gauis Charles Bolin, class of 1889, who was the first African-American to graduate from Williams College. The Bolin Fellowships are one year residencies at Williams and at least two graduate students from underrepresented groups are appointed each year. Fellows devote the bulk of their residency to the completion of dissertation work and teach one course as a faculty member in one of the College’s academic departments or programs.
