Fairtrade Campus Designation
A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged:
Resulting from increasing interest from students, Laurier Sustainability Office worked with Food Services over 12 months to make changes to our food procurement to meet the requirements of the Canadian Fairtrade Network's Fairtrade Campus Designation. In January 2017 we held an open house to celebrate the achievement of the designation. The open house included a giveaway for the first 100 attendees of a reusable coffee mug, fairtrade products (i.e., chocolate/coffee) and gift cards to campus locations selling fairtrade products. Over 250 staff/students attended the event.
A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

Laurier Bike Month
A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged (2nd campaign):
For the past 4 years in June, Laurier undertakes a series of staff focused initiatives to celebrate and encourage participation in the Region's bike month. In 2018 this included weekly organized lunch bike rides to a local food restaurant, two hands-on bike maintenance workshops, and a bike-to-work breakfast day. This also includes tracking commuting trips through the TravelWise platform, which allows Laurier to compete with other TravelWise organizations across the region for a friendly competition.
A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
In 2018, over 50 staff participated in the events, while 174 bike trips were logged by Laurier staff on the TravelWise platform.

Optional Fields
In partnership with Laurier Alumni's crowdfunding platform, HAWKstarter, the Laurier Sustainability Office executed two campaigns.
In late 2016, 'Planting a Laurier Forest' was created to raise money to plant trees on Laurier campus. As a result, over $6,300 was raised, allowing the Laurier Sustainability Office to plant over 100 trees on campus. These trees were planted in the Spring of 2017.
In late 2017, 'Laurier Hawk Honey' was created to raise money to expand Laurier's bee apiary on campus. Over $2,000 was raised to go towards the installation of more beehives and educational hives on campus.
