A brief description of the themed housing:
The Geography and Environmental Studies Learning Community (GES)is Laurier fifth Learning Community. It was created for students majoring in Geography, Environmental Studies or Geology. The GES community provides students with an interest in our natural world with a chance to live and interact with like-minded peers daily. The community provides opportunities for students to engage in integrated social experiences to build friendships, facilitate academic success, and exposure to contemporary issues and opportunities in Geography and Environmental Studies. Students in this community will:
* Live with their peers from the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies
* Be afforded the opportunity to get to know senior Geography and Environmental Studies students and professors outside the classroom
* Be exposed and have access to resources otherwise intended for senior undergraduate and graduate students such as GIS software and the Laurier map library
* Have access to special academic sessions provided by the Faculty of Arts at WLU to enhance in class performance
* Have the opportunity to become involved with campus student groups and local organizations to explore environmental issues and projects focused on sustainability
* Explore the Region of Waterloo while visiting conservation areas, provincial parks, local agriculture, and through field work
